This medical device is a bovine pericardium-derived collagen membrane; bovine pericardium is subjected to an accurate multiphase process, designed and developed in ASSUT EUROPE S.p.A.. The manufacturing process provides, in addition to the inactivation of pathogens, the complete destruction or removal of cells, fats and non-collagen proteins, without altering collagen three-dimensional structure and biomechanical properties. Purified pericardium is composed of type 1 collagen and elastin. It acts as a matrix for fibroblasts germination, new tissue and blood vessel formation. Simultaneously with the formation of new tissue, a gradual degradation of pericardium collagen occurs. The membrane is available in various shapes and sizes: wet or dry, perforated or non-perforated. Wet membrane is kept in a Propylene Glycol and Ethanol solution, while dry membrane is subjected to soaking with pure acetone
Non-perforated membrane is intended for soft tissue repair, for muscle flaps reinforcement, for tendon structures reinforcement, augmentation and covering, for reinforcement and/or replacement of connective tissue, to prevent the formation of adhesions and accelerate the tissue recovery times in: abdominal, cardiac and thoracic surgery, urology, gynecology, vascular surgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, andrology, oral surgery, traumatology, implantology and periodontology. The MD must not come into contact with central nervous system and with eye. Perforated membrane is used for soft tissue, abdominal and thoracic wall surgical repair, providing greater liquid permeability. The membrane is opaque white, but there may be light yellow (dry membrane) or rosy (wet membrane) streaks..
Before the application, it is necessary to immerse BioRipar, at room temperature, in 500 ml of sterile physiological solution (NaCl 0,9%) for 15 to 30 minutes. Fix the membrane by suturing it. It is recommended to select membranes of sizes suitable for the area where they shall be applied. The membranes can be cut to fit the size of the defect, they are applied "tension-free" in hernia repair, or in close contact in damaged tissue repair.
